You know it's over when... (Karkat x Reader)

You sat in next to the punch table watching people dance.

From the corner of your eye you saw Karkat dance with Terezi, and jealousy coursed through your veins, and you decided to go home.

Without him.


You know its over, when he doesn't sit with you when you're out with friends.

You went out today with the trolls to get a bite to eat, you sat at a table, and expected Karkat to come and sit next to you, instead he walked past you and sat between Gamzee and Terezi, at the very end of the table, far away from you. Nepeta sat next to you and frowned.

"Is something purrmatter with you and Karkitty?" she asked puzzled and surprisingly slightly irritated for reasons unknown to you.

You smiled sadly, 'Maybe he just needs some space...'  

"No, nothings wrong, I uh.. think."

Nepeta frowned again and patted your shoulder, attempting to comfort you.


You know it's over when you argue more than usual, it used to be silly little argument's, now it's full blown yelling at each other.

He knows what your weakness spots are, and he uses that agents you when arguing. You never felt more hurt in your life as he pointed out all your flaws he once called beautiful.

'How could he?' You ran out of his hive all the way to your apartment, trying to hold your tears in.


You know its over when...


The next day you were sitting alone on your couch thinking over what happened last night, when did your matespritship become so sour? You thought back on how Karkat has been acting the past few weeks, and you noticed the truth was staring right at your face and you just chose to ignore the obvious. Tears gathered in your eyes.

'Was this my fault?' You thought while wiping the tears from your face with the sleeve of your shirt.

You heard someone knocking on your front door, hoping it was Nepeta, (who you called earlier to keep you company) not moving from the couch you answered,

"You c-can come in Nep, i-t's open!

You heard the noise of your front door opening, then closing silently. Footsteps got closer until the landed right in front of you, you looked up then back down refusing to meet Karkat's gaze.

"...(Your Name)...?" You heard his rough voice shatter the silence, you felt frozen, completely numb, as if you were in a bubble.

'This can't be happening, it-it can't!'

"(Your Name), I think we should end this matespritship." He said quietly, and all you could do was nod woodenly and staring at the floor. Karkat sighed, stayed for a few seconds, and left not bothering to look back again.

When he closed the door, the full affect of what just happened slapped you in the face, you started to shake as sobs racked your body, you feel...so empty, so alone.

You heard the door open again, and you didn't react, you kept crying, and sobbing.

You felt arms wrap themselves over your shaking body, you want to stop the pain. You'd do anything to stop it.

"There there (Your Name)..." Nepeta shooshpaped you, trying to calm you down.

It was no use, you where broken.

It was over.


You know it's over when he calls it off.
